First built in 1588 by Portugese, then extensively fabricated with defenses by the Dutch from 1649 onwards Galle Fort stands the testament of time by being an unpresidented attraction among toursits who come to visit Sri Lanka.

Galle Fort is located onto the south west of the Island nation shoreline towards Matara and Tangalle.

The fort, like most of the forts in Sri Lanka, is built on a small rocky peninsula, belonging to the sea as much as to the land. As it exists today, it covers an area of 52 hectares (130 acres).
